So I just finished a play at my iniversity and am finally allowed to dye my hair again! I usually lean towards either dark brown or auburn, but at this point I really don't know what to do. I'm going to London next semester and don't have to worry about having my hair "normal" for auditions for the next few months, so I am open to just about any color. Here'e me recently:

I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow, I currently have extensions on one side of my head because I jumped for an a-sym cut and HATED IT the next day, and I can't keep up these extensions anymore, they fall out randomly and feel terrible.I need some suggestions on what to do, and how short to go. I want to keep a vintage/rockabilly look to my hair and I'm not sure how to get it cut. I'd like to keep my bettie bangs, but cuts without them are also alright.

So my mom was recently diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and begins her chemo treatments in a few weeks. She's having a REALLY difficult time with the idea of losing her hair and I wanted to comfort her. However, she insisted that it would be silly for me to shave my entire head, esp being so close to working at some important internships. SO, girls with portions of their head shaved or buzzed short (< one inch please). Or if anyone has been in this situation, what to do. I'm at a loss of this point and I'm running out of motivational speeches.

Two months ago I moved to a part of town with hard water and now I'm really seeing the effects of it on my hair. I started using the same shampoo and conditioner I used the last time I lived in an area with hard water (Jason Organics 84% Aloe Vera) and it's not working the same because of a different type of hard water. So what can I do to fix this? I've heard of using aspirin paste, a baking soda paste, a vinegar rinse, and clarifying shampoos to remove the build up on hair from hard water. What do you folks use?

so i remember seeing in a magazine (either heat or closer) some thickening spray, and it's supposed to make your hair feel abit thicker? has anyone used any kind of thickening spray and did it work? obviously i'm not expecting my hair to be tons thicker by using it but my hair is just so fine and flat, and i don't want to get extentions to make it look thicker. can anyone recommend a good brand also? something that's available at superdrug/boots/asda as i live in the uk. thanks!

Also- in your experience, which is the best kind, and which doesn't hurt the most? I would wear them mostly every day. Is it worth getting a weave? I also have super wavy hair, can they give me wavy extensions?

I cut my hair short in Sept. and now it's growing back (my hair grows back quickly and it gets really thick). My stylist kinda gave me a mullet too, I really want a different cut so its more managable and easier to grow out. Also; suggestions on color loves? I might be getting extentions soon as well, just something I thought I should mention

So I've been bleaching my regrowth for more than a few years now and have recently developed an allergic reaction to it :/ My face and ears get red and hot and I get tiny pinprick hives all over. It's weird because I never had a problem with it before. Anyway my hair could probably use a break anyway.
But I'm sort of attached, so I'm having a difficult time thinking of an alternative.
My natural hair color is a dirty blonde so I'm thinking of either trying a darker blonde (it would be a relief not to have to worry so much about my roots - right now they look really dark next to the platinum blonde) or a light-ish red.
What I have now (only it's longer now.. about boob length):

ok, this is my last post about fixing my blonde. PROMISE! so i bleached and toned for the second time tonight, and my color came out a lot better...but it's still really yellow. i've tried shimmer lights (4 times) and so far it hasn't made a difference. i used a violet based toner, and it did help...but not enough. so my question is, can i tone without having to bleach again? or do you HAVE to bleach right before you tone? i was thinking about giving it a couple of days, then toning again...i really don't want to bleach again, because my hair is getting fried.
well i'm on that subject, anyone have suggestions for a good deep conditioner? something on the cheapish side? thanks!

Over the summer, I got a pixie cut, but I've been growing it out since. I want to eventually grow it out to a bob, then get an asymmetrical cut. However, I'm stuck in the awkward in-between phase right now. I pretty much can't do anything with it besides putting the bottom in to a little ponytail.

So, I want to keep the length by my ears, so it can continue to grow out. But I wanna have some sort of style to it, something that would look good while still growing also. I guess I'd be willing to cut the sides a bit but not extensively. Suggestions/pictures would be greatly appreciated. :)

i just got my hair cut based off some of the suggestions you all left me earlier this morning. i'm going to use loreal's colour rays a little later this evening to put a fuschia shade in my hair. i'm not sure if i want it all over or if i want it mostly underneath, or just streaks. if someone can leave me suggestions or tips i would really appreciate it. you've all been so nice and helpful and encouraging. i'm so glad i came across this community. you all are amazing!

I've been in a hair rut for ages now and was hoping that maybe some of you kind people could help me out by telling me what to do with it. Recently, I've been wearing my hair in braids because it's at a weird length and that's boring, so I come to you for advice: a.) shave the sides or b.) grow it long
Or, suggest colors for me to try! The color under the cut isn't even my natural one, which is a light blond/brown.

I have never done anything drastic with my hair before but today I'm ready for a bit of a change. Right now my hair is just a little past shoulder length and shorter in the back. Hey so I'll keep this short and sweet. I'm looking to cut my hair, I'm not a person who styles their hair very much--I just straighten out my side bangs and then let the rest curl. I love having curly/wavy hair and would say my 'signature style' would be a natural-messy style. I rarely put up my hair in a pony tail. I also find that my hair matts up at the back of my neck creating this one huge dread. Its pretty unsightly.

Okay. So. I am finally facing the consequences of dying my hair too much. And it sucks.
I started dying my whole head about 3 years ago, a few times a month.
It's taken quite the toll and now I'm starting to notice the damage.
I feel like I'm losing my hair. It has gotten so thin I'm terrified I'm going to go bald.

hey madradhair, me again. i think i want to dye my hair abit darker. not necessarily brown, red or black, but a slightly darker blonde? i feel as though this colour doesn't look good on me at all, and i normally wait about 6 weeks instead of 4 to get my roots done because i want it to grow. my natural hair colour is a dirty blonde but when i was little it was lighter. i don't want it loads darker, just by a few shades so my roots blend abit more.

Hay guys,
After having bright pink(ish) hair for a year and a half, I decided to change things up and become one with autumn by doing a natural reddish color instead.
Look at my hairs because I'm quite pleased that this didn't end up a fried mess, or some nasty puke-based color. ( Pink to natural red! )
This process was not actually that daunting (although the stripping/bleaching routine is extremely tedious), and my hair is completely fine and healthy even though it felt like it started to turn into mush while the bleach was on my head. I did use some kind of deep conditioning shit... and yeah, I'm pretty happy with it, so I thought I'd share.
Gonna cross-post this to dyedhair because I roll like that.

hey! This is me in madder, radder days. After the blond, which I loathed, I went back to a natural warm light brown. all good. Then I wanted to go light, warm brownish red for fall with Wella permanent hair dye in Light Copper (red/gold base). I know Wella tends to develop dark but I was not expecting my hair to turn out BRIGHT cherry red that looked cool instead of warm! How can I fade this quickly? I've heard dish soap, dandruff shampoo... any other ideas?
